A House For A Farmer And His Dog
Fall 2008 - Spring 2009

Adviser: Hunter Pittman
Pella Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Architecture Thesis Finalist
This thesis is partially a commentary on ingrained rules of American vernacular farmsteads, and partially a reinvention of a Virginian farm. A tower house is the Hearth of the farm with additional functioning outbuildings positioned using the ancient Greek's polar coordinates system. From a critical view point at the entrance of the house (the center of the farm), the farmer surveys the farmyard, additional structures, and crop rows focusing predominantly outward, toward the landscape. The site is located in Louisa, Virginia on a 7 acre produce farm.
